New York Islanders - Islanders fight cancer, share your story - New ...

The New York Islanders have once again joined the fight to battle cancer in support of the NHL?s ?Hockey Fights Cancer? campaign this October.??

Fans are encouraged to share their own personal stories or those of loved ones who valiantly battled cancer, those who lost their battles and cancer organizations that touched their lives during difficult times.

Last season, fans sent in numerous heartfelt and inspiring stories detailing the strength of the community and the resolve of those battling cancer. Many in the Islanders organization including players and the fans have all been deeply touched by these stories. Parents, siblings, friends and anyone affected can submit their story.?

Submissions will be posted on the New York Islanders official website, along with pictures of the loved ones the stories are about. These inspiring stories will be shared with the rest of the hockey community around the league. Submissions and contact information (name, address, email, phone number, and picture of loved one) should be sent to Ann.Rina@NewYorkIslanders.com.

To help raise money for the Islanders Fight Cancer Campaign, the Islanders will offer many different opportunities to fans so they can donate to the cause this October. A pink stick auction will be held along with proceeds from the 50/50 raffles and chuck a puck going to the cause.? There will also be a pink cotton candy fundraiser, as well as a Hockey Fights Cancer wall that fans can place their name on. This season, the team will host Islanders Fight Cancer Night Oct 25 at 7 p.m. against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Last year the Islanders raised more than $20,000 for the cause and expect to increase that number this season with the help of the best fans in the league.

The campaign, established by the NHL in 1998, was created as an initiative to raise awareness and money for cancer research. Over 13 years, the NHL has raised $12 million for cancer research including $1.1 million in the 2010-11 season.
