PHOENIXVILLE ? A 5-year-old girl who inspired a community to rally in her support as she fought brain cancer succumbed to the disease Sunday night.

Gabriella Martha Vogel, affectionately known as Gabby, died at 8:15 p.m. Sept. 11, according to a posting on the Get Well Gabby website.

Gabby suffered from Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a malignant tumor in her brain.

According to information on the site (www.getwellgabby.org), Gabby was diagnosed with the cancer on June 8 and underwent chemotherapy, which improved her condition. Then, in late August, her symptoms worsened and she was taken to the Children?s Hospital of Philadelphia where she underwent surgery for the mass pressing on her brain.
