Kendra the Octomaid's run-in with land

**Anyone plz feel free to contribute! Let's make a story about octomaid(s)! Mermaids get all the attention.

The current was strong today, Kendra could feel it. She didn't know the cause. Perhaps it was a storm that was particularly bad! Kendra loved these circumstances. It gave her the perfect reason to surface and see land without being afraid of being spotted! She chuckled to herself.
Kendra didn't know why the land-people fascinated her so much. She was quite popular among the mer- and octo-folk, and could pick up any seaman she wanted. Kendra chuckled, examining her olive skin and spurting through the water using her 8 thick, red tentacles to propel herself.
Kendra was a Cecaelia, or an octomaid, like a mermaid but instead with tentacles on her lower half instead of a fin. It made for a beautiful combination. Kendra had always been proud of her octarian ancestry, which differentiated her from the vast seamen population which were merfolk.
Kendra was about 100 meters below the water's edge as she sped with the under current, her long black hair flowing in all directions behind her.

Her tentacles carried her with ease though the water. Way better than a fin! she thought to herself. Ok, maybe she had gotten a little cocky over the years. But it was just because Kendra had a habit of getting her way, and it was something that she had gotten used to. She remembered the jealous eyes of the mermaids as their male friends and brothers had flocked her at the academy. She remembered numerous instances of talking her way out of trouble ...or punishment depending on the situation. Now the it was the same case. She had royalty in her blood and worked as a diplomat, and her persuasive abilities now allowed her to reap larger rewards.

She still had many suitors just dying to ask her hand in marriage. It was entertaining because since her obtaining her diplomat job for the octo-kingdom, the effects of royalty(comfortable conditions, immediate response to requests, and an ample supply of high quality food...) had taken their toll on her. She had gotten some-what plump now that most of the time she was sedentary and didn't have mandatory exercise routines which the academy had implemented. She had, admit ably, been nervous about losing her suitors but quickly found out that in royalty, your size is somewhat equivalent to your power status. Although she became tired of swimming much quicker now, Kendra was sure she had more seamen chasing after her now that she was...a little more filled in.

Oh, she loved her new life! The academy had been boring and monotonous. Her new position took her to new places, helped her meet new people, and most of all, gave her plenty of time off. It had been lucky that on her day of there was a storm like this!

She was only about 50 meters under now, and could see sand being carried out by the under-current coming towards her. She must be close to the shore! Her heart raced. Would there be any humans out with the storm? Twice before, Kendra had gone into the shallow waters of the shoreline and flirted with the humans, making sure to keep her lower-half out-of-sight. She had clothing similar enough to that which the human females used while swimming, and they had never noticed that she might have something other than legs.

It gave Kendra such a thrill to do things like that, and as she slithered even closer to the shore, she recognized her innate desire to go on land, and to be able to walk. Although some mermaids were able to change from having fins to legs and back, octomaids were incapable of doing this even temporarily. On top of that, Kendra knew that as a Cecaelia even if she did make it onto land she would dehydrate within a couple of hours and die. Her tentacles needed a tremendous amount of water to function, and it was hard for her to move on land.

Kendra shuddered at the thought. No, she was the swiftest of the seas, and that's where she belonged... but it didn't hurt to be aware of what was going on around you, did it?

Tentatively she broke the surface, immediately aware of the thinness of the air. Normally it was hardly enough to breathe without moving much, but her tentacles allowed her to draw oxygen from the water. Kendra looked towards the shoreline, hoping to see some land men. Alas, with the storm, there was not a soul to be seen on the shore...

She was disheartened at first, but quickly realized that this fact allowed to get a closer to the shore. She became nervous with excitement. What did dry sand feel like? She had touched dry rocks before but never had been able to feel a fine grain of sand in her hand.

She steadily approached the shore, feeling as her tentacles slid beneath the waves across the sand. She was twenty meters out from the shoreline! Never had she been this close! She stopped, for fear of the receding tide stranding her on the beach. It was hard to calculate how far she could go with the storm, as the height and intensity of the waves were inconsistent. Still, with such strong waves, there'd always be a big one to take her back to the sea if needs be. Kendra slithered forward even further. The dry sand was so close!

As she surveyed her surroundings, the setting suddenly became much darker. Kendra glanced around in confusion, and screamed. Directly behind her was a towering wave of at least 15 meters. She was powerless to resist as the wave picked her up and drove her towards the shore. Spinning uncontrollably, Kendra closed her eyes and waited for the crash of the wave and the residual back current which would return her to deeper waters. The crash came as expected, but the result was different. Kendra was thrown with violent force against the ground, knocking the oxygen out of her. There was a tremendous pain in her side and her head pounded. As she faded out of consciousness, Kendra could feel the dry sand against her back and see the water from the colossal wave recede to the ocean.

Kendra came to sometime later with a sharp, painful intake of breath. She grimaced at the thinness of the air. As she took a second breath, the pain didn't fade, but remained just as sharply acute. She moaned and tried to rollover. The pain in her side flared up again. Kendra cursed and looked down, then gasped in surprise. She was on land! This surprise quickly turned to fear as she realized her situation. She was sprawled out on dry land 20 meters from the coastline. Panicking, she tried to turn over and slither towards the water, but to no avail. Her suckers couldn't get purchase on the sand, as it provided no solid foundation.

Desperate, Kendra tried to "step" as she had seen the humans do with their legs. This was almost impossible because she had no bones in her lower body to support herself. By dragging one tentacle forward , then following it with another, she inched towards the shoreline. She made it about a meter before stopping, gasping for oxygen. The air was so thin!! She cursed it, and tried to push herself forward. Her thin arms gave out on her and she collapsed upon her tentacles. Maybe, during her time in the academy, she would have been able to hold herself up and make slow and steady progress towards the sea. But now... she could hardly hold up her own belly for a couple of seconds before her arms gave out, and her tentacles, though strong, made her feel like she was hauling eight dead sharks across land. She cursed herself for ceasing to exercise after the academy.
Utter terror filled her as she realized she wouldn't make it to the water before she got dehydrated. Her adrenaline had given her something, but not enough. Kendra looked down and started to sob uncontrollably. This was the first time in her life where she had truly felt..helpless.
