NLRB poster mandate still up in the air
With an April 30 deadline looming, business groups and the National Labor Relations Board continue to battle it out in court over whether the federal agency can move forward in enforcing a new poster mandate for private businesses. The legal challenge concerns an NLRB regulation that goes into effect April 30 and that will require most businesses to post a new 11? x 17? workplace notice advising employees of their rights to organize into unions. Read on.

I-1183 heads to the Supreme Court
Opponents of I-1183 have filed an appeal to the Washington State Supreme Court, of Cowltiz County Judge Stephen Warning?s ruling that I-1183 is, indeed, fully constitutional. Plaintiffs have requested that the appeal bypass the normal appellate court process and, instead, be reviewed on an accelerated time frame by the Supreme Court. The state is well on its way to implementing I-1183, and it would appear prudent that the Supreme Court take the case up quickly, allowing for a final decision before the state exits the business. Additionally, the labor unions that filed an identical case in King County in December are now trying to resurrect that case as a separate action from the Cowlitz County case. In this instance, the King County Superior Court opted to defer to the Cowlitz County Court; however, they would now like to have the King County Court take up the identical issues. It is unclear when the King County Court will rule procedurally, but one would expect they also would defer to the Supreme Court.
