Apple's iPad Dominance is Over, Courtesy Smaller Android Tablets

Leo

If you're going shopping leave your credit card at home, because you're in the mood to splash out. None of them may cost very much by themselves, but the total will soon mount up if you give into temptation every time you see something you want. It will be hard to stagger home because you're laden down with so many carrier bags!

Well that sure would be an improvement over this windoze 7.5 nokia lumia I'm stuck with... that thing even has slowdowns running a little NES emulator (I'm not kidding).

    Where is CM Punk?

A few weeks ago, something unusual happened: "The Voice of the Voiceless" lost his voice.

It had been a little more than 14 days since his defeat at the hands of The Undertaker at WrestleMania in a valiantly fought loss ? hardly a trouncing by any means ? that no one in the WWE Universe thought any less of Punk for, even though he had it coming. But the defeat seemed to have taken a profound toll on the former WWE Champion all the same, and in a way even losing his 434-day title reign to The Rock had. Seeming at first to struggle with his words, the man who claimed to turn the microphone into a lethal weapon simply closed his mouth after a few moments, hugged his friend Paul Heyman and walked away.

Since then, Punk has gone virtually radio silent. Apart from a few sightings at various major-league ballparks and one UFC event, nobody seems to have seen hide or hair of The Second City Saint since he abdicated his chosen pulpit and sulked away into the shadows. Paul Heyman has, for the time being, at least, shifted his focus to Brock Lesnar?s preparation to face Triple H?at Extreme Rules. The WWE Universe, meanwhile, has been left to wonder what?s become of Punk and, more importantly, whether a WWE ring will ever see him again.

Punk's 15 greatest moments?|?Relive his epic title reign

As to the former question, Punk?s Twitter?account has proved a somewhat helpful source of information. The Second City Saint has been fairly active in self-imposed exile, tweeting images from his primo spots in the stands at the games he?s been attending. So he?s hardly sitting at home washing his tights; at least it?s confirmation that CM Punk is somewhere out there in the world. Still, unless you?re planning on staking out various stadiums in the greater Chicago area (or unless you?re Chael Sonnen), odds of rubbing shoulders with The Straight Edge Superstar appear remarkably slim.

As for whether he?s returning to the ring, that?s where the matter gets hairier ?

AllThingsD: Gates, Ballmer and Sean Parker join Zuckerberg's FWD.us lobby group

FWDus political group adds Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer and Sean Parker to its ranks

Mark Zuckerberg showed he's more than just a social butterfly earlier this month, forming the tech-focused political lobby group FWD.us alongside some other big names in the industry. Now, according to AllThingsD, a few more heavy-hitters have signed up to offer their expertise, including Microsoft's Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer, Sean Parker and Intuit CEO Brad Smith. Not a bad crew to have on your side when technology issues are up for discussion, especially Ballmer -- he's notoriously good at getting his point across.

Mother Tekla: The most powerful woman in Rome

ROME, Italy ? If the leadership of American nuns is the vanguard of a progressive spirit up against the Vatican, Mother Tekla Famiglietti is a throwback to the past: an orthodox leader who learned the rules of the game and wields power in the all-male world of the Roman Curia.

The 75-year-old head of an international order and a staunch traditionalist, Italian-born ?Mother Tekla? has for more than three decades built a power base with considerable financial prowess.

She established a long relationship with Pope John Paul II and was among the small group in vigil at the papal apartment in the Apostolic Palace the night he died. Her relationship with Pope Benedict XVI was not as warm, and she was kept at a distance from the small circle Benedict called La Famiglia that was central to his daily life. With the cardinals now gathering in the Vatican to elect a new pope, Mother Tekla is here in Rome, but it remains to be seen whether her connections in the Curia will yield access to the new pope. But few would disagree that she has already left a distinctive imprint at the Vatican and on the Catholic Church.

    Mother Tekla Famiglietti
    (Jason Berry/GlobalPost)

As the Abbess General of the Order of the Most Holy Saviour of Saint Bridget for the last 32 years, she has cultivated global relationships with everyone from Fidel Castro to casino owners to further the goals of her order. She oversees a small empire of hotels, restaurants and high-end guest houses from Israel to India and from Darien, Connecticut to Assisi, Italy that bring in big revenue for her order. Mother Tekla has been taken to task by the media for exploiting nuns who clean, make beds and cook in this tax-free enterprise, but her order has also been widely praised for a bold, worldwide initiative against the trafficking of women. She is a unique and complex player in the global Catholic Church, often referred to as ?the most powerful woman in Rome.?

?Mother Tekla has an unusual ability to ennoble others ... Some people are born with good leadership.?
    ~James Nicholson

One morning, Mother Tekla sat in the elegant, if understated, parlor of St. Bridget?s House at Piazza Farnese in Rome, a few blocks from the Tiber River and short walk to St. Peter?s Square. She wore a gray habit, her broad face framed in a dark veil with the Bridgettines? trademark metal strips, resembling a helmet shaped like a crucifix. There was a framed image of herself with John Paul II ? and Castro.

In a long and wide-ranging interview with GlobalPost in late November, she spoke in a demeanor that shifted from genial to a steel-hard seriousness, and she seemed to sum up all of the journey in her life, saying, ?We are a tool for history, but the one who really acts is God.?

James Nicholson, a US ambassador to the Holy See under President George W. Bush and now a Washington, DC attorney, said, ?We used to euphemistically call her the Popessa.?

He credits her help on several initiatives, including organizational assistance on a 2002 sexual trafficking conference the embassy organized, with representatives from 39 countries.

?Mother Tekla has an unusual ability to ennoble others ? like cardinals and bishops,? added Nicholson. ?You?d see a line-up of red hats and this woman in a habit like a helmet, as they showed respect for her stature. Some people are born with good leadership.?

Marco Politi, a veteran Vatican journalist and biographer of the last two popes, is more blunt. ?Mother Tekla is a power machine with high-ranking connections in the Curia,? he said.

?By donating to cardinals you help them in their good works ? such as supporting a home for young people,? said Politi. ?Of course you don?t know for sure where the money is going?Money is a form of prestige and connections in the Curia.?

Benedict?s prosecutorial arm in the Vatican, known as the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith, has investigated the American leadership of nuns, or the Leadership Conference of Women Religious for pushing ?radical feminist themes.? The pope was respectful of Mother Tekla, but unlike John Paul he kept her at a distance from La Famiglia, the tight circle on which he relied in his daily activities. Her access to Benedict was much more limited than her access to John Paul. Yet her presence in Rome is longstanding.

Internet providers to intervene with illegal downloads

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Internet users who illegally share music, movies or television shows online could soon receive warning notices from the nation's five major Internet service providers.

The Copyright Alert System, organized by the recording and film industry, is being activated this week to target consumers using peer-to-peer software.

Under the new system, complaints will prompt an Internet service provider ? such as Verizon or AT&T ? to notify a customer whose Internet address has been detected sharing files illegally. A person will be given up to six opportunities to stop before the Internet provider will take more drastic steps, such as temporarily slowing their connection, or redirecting Internet traffic until they acknowledge they received a notice or review educational materials about copyright law.

Consumers who maintain they have been wrongly accused would be forced to pay $35 to appeal the decision. The fee would be reimbursed if they prevail.

Proponents say the focus is on deterring the average consumer rather than chronic violators. The director of the organization behind the system, Jill Lesser of the Center for Copyright Infringement, said in a blog post Monday that the program is "meant to educate rather than punish, and direct (users) to legal alternatives."

Each Internet provider is expected to implement their own system. The program gives each customer five or six "strikes" after a music or film company has detected illegal file-sharing and lodged a complaint. The first alerts are expected to be educational, while the third and fourth would require the customer to acknowledge that they have received the warnings and understand their behavior is illegal. The final warnings are expected to lead to "mitigation measures," such as slowing a person's Internet connection speeds.

Officials involved in the effort acknowledge it's unlikely to stop the biggest violators. There are ways to disguise an IP address or use a neighbor's connection that is unlocked. Public wireless connections, such as those offered at coffee shops, also won't be monitored.
